About Gripla

Gripla is a peer-reviewed journal published in December each year. It has an international reach and is dedicated to publishing research on topics within Icelandic and Old Norse studies, particularly in the fields of manuscript studies, textual criticism, literature and ethnography. The contents include articles, editions of short texts and brief notes and queries (the latter not peer-reviewed). Book reviews are not published, and translations only when they accompany editions of texts. The principal language of the journal is Icelandic but articles in another Scandinavian language, English, German or French are also accepted. Abstracts and keywords follow each article or edition. Each volume of Gripla also contains a list of manuscripts cited.

The deadline for submissions is 1 April each year.

Gripla is registred on the Web of Science™ (Clarivate) and Scopus (Elsevier).

Further information and instructions concerning submitting articles and the publication process can be found here in Icelandic and English.

Gripla is an Open Access publication. All volumes are available for download via www.timarit.is. Subscriptions are available by e-mail to orders@boksala.is (orders are processed by Bóksala stúdenta).

Editors: Margrét Eggertsdóttir and Þórunn Sigurðardóttir.

Instructions in Icelandic and English

Articles should be submitted in a conventional word-processing format (such as Word), with minimal stylistic text-formatting. Authors can choose between the two main reference systems outlined in the Chicago Manual of Style (17th rev. ed., University of Chicago Press, 2017), i.e. either the so-called Notes-Bibliography System or the Author-Date System (for examples, see below). A bibliography/list of references should accompany the article in either case. Please note that in the bibliography Icelandic authors should be listed alphabetically according to their first names.“
